Rectocele and Post-Surgery Complications: Can a Fall Cause Issues?

Question
I had TAH in May '00,including cervix.About 2 years ago I noticed I would sometimes have to push stool through vagina.I realize this is a sign of a rectocele. Then an odd thing happened.About 6 months ago I fell on my rear. Now stools get really stuck and I can no longer even feel them through vagina.Inside my rectum feels like a bulge and stools just kind of break down and come out a little at a time.MY question is could a fall have made or displaced a rectocele? THanks.Susan

Answer
Sorry it took me so long to answer. I'm not sure why I didn't receive this question before today.

I have heaqrd stories like your before. Ordinarily, we think of prolapse as a condition that develops slowly over time - but occasionally, a traumatic event like a fall can make it happen abruptly.

You should see a urogynecologist. You can find on at www.augs.org

You should know that prolapse surgery doesn't always fix the problem you are experiencing with your BM's. In other words, even if the bulge is successfully fixed, that's no guarantee that your BM problems will completely resolve.

Best of Luck
