Irregular Periods After Birth Control: What to Expect

Question
I'm 18 with no kids, and I've been on birthcontrol. I just ended my last period 2 Sundays ago and yesterday 2/28 I start my period again... is this normal?

Answer
Often, at the time of ovulation (mid cycle) you can have some vaginal bleeding that resembles a regular period but is usually shorter and lighter. Keep a careful record of all your bleeding for the next 6 months. Write down if it is staining, spotting, or heavy bleeding and how many days it lasts. Then you can see if there is a pattern. Often, at the time of ovulation (cycle day #14) you will see some lighter bleeding. This is insignificant and will do no harm to your system.
