Navigating Pregnancy & Travel: Safety Concerns & Considerations
QuestionI am seventeen and this is my first pregnancy. I will be away from home for three months returning about two months before my due date. While I am away there I will be cared for by a doctor but not one specilizing in pregnancy or birth. I will also be about an hour from the nearest hospital most of the time. My doctor says I have a low-risk pregnancy. Do I need to change my plans because of the doctor situation?
AnswerIt is always better to be cared for by an experienced obsttrician, especially during the last few months of a pregnancy, when problems may arise. Certainly, you should have access to a hospital that is nearer to you when you go into labor. I would suggest that you consult with an obstetrician now to see what is going on with you currently and then make plans to be near a hospital and an obstetrician as you get close to term.
