Post-Cesarean Pain and Clotting: Causes and When to Seek Medical Attention

Question
hi there, i am 22 yrs old, i have 3 kids, march 2000 was a natural birth, sept2003 was a classical c sec at 26 wks gest due to heammorrage, breech and prematurity, April 2005 32 wks gest i had my second c sec, 5 wks ago and since day one have had constant clotting and sharp pains i have never actually experienced any other type of bleeding.
the beeding can vary from a real bright red to a almaost flesh coloured clot, sometimes look like strings of flesh. i not sure that its anything to be concerned about, but it is far from hte experience of my last c csec,  i know i have not been taking it as easy as i should be but who can relax with a family to run and a baby in neonatal care.
i do also have this burning sensation at times around my scar, more prominant when i sit after standing, during and affter driving etc.
any advice would be muchly appreciated as i am quite worried, but know that it is at least not infection or anything, my mother in law mentioned scar tissue damage, but what is it and what does it mean if it is a possibilty.

Answer
If you continue to have bleeding, clotting, and passage of "strings of flesh" from your vagina since the cesarean section, you may have some "retained products of conception" remaining in the uterus (placental tissue, etc). I would suggest getting a sonogram to see if the cavity is, indeed, empty. If not, you may need a D&C to completely clean out your uterus. It is common to bleed until your 6 week checkup, so the bleeding may be entirely normal as well.  You will have a burning sensation around the inicision until it is completely healed. I would wait until your post partum visit (6-8weeks post C/S) and see if it improves. If not, discuss it with your doctor.
