QuestionI am 35.4 weeks pregnant w/ my 4th child. I have arthritic changes as well as a bulging disc in my L4-L5. As well as disc degenerative disease. I have been on pain meds for several years as I have been pregnant for the past 3 1/2 years. I have a 2yr 4 month old, a 11 month old, and due via c-section 2/4/10). My pain Dr. plans on doing steroid inj after the delivery but I would like to know what exercises I can do to help prevent any further damage to my back yet not to painful that I give up.
Thank you for your help!

Answer Your level of pain, arthritis, and bulging disc indicates that you should see a PT who specializes in both prenatal/postpartum issues and spine/disc problems. Get a referral from you doctor. A steroid injection will reduce swelling and pain, but treats your symptoms, not the underlying cause(s) of your condition. Also, have you discussed how steroids will or will not effect your breast milk and new baby?
