Missed Period While on Birth Control: Possible Pregnancy?

Question
I think I may be pregnant even though I doubt that it could happen.

I am almost 18 years old and I have no children. I've been on Yasmin for about a year now. I take it regularly, but sometimes I take it up to two hours later than I usually do. If I concieved, it was at July 25th at the latest and July 15th at the earliest.

I had a period about a week after the 25th when I was scheduled to have one and I had a second period a month after that. The periods were much lighter than usual. My next scheduled period is next week.

I became sick a few days ago. I become nausious with diarhhea (but not to the point of throwing up) in the morning and I feel better throughout the day with only slight nausia. I figured it was a virus going around my school (my brother got sick with a virus much like this). When I told my mom this, she asked if I was pregnant.

So, I became scared. I looked up information online and saw that some people, especially those on birth control, do have a fake 'period' even though they are pregnant.

I have no other signs of pregnancy, really. My back has been kind of sore but I had mono in March and since then I've not really gained my strength back. Initially after the 25th I did experience odd feelings of having to use the bathroom all the time but when I'd get there I didn't have to use the bathroom at all. These feelings stopped about week after they started.

My friend said she'd bring me a pregnancy test tomorrow. I plan on using it if I don't feel better by the end of the week and/or if my period is still acting funny. But, I would like to get your feedback before then.

Please, if you have any information to give me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you.

Answer
If you are taking the birth control pills (even if you occasionally take them late), it is highly unlikely that you could become pregnant. You did not mention the date of your last period so I can't tell you the dates you could have conceived if you had sex. However, if you did get your period, you are not pregnant. You cannot be pregnant and have your period. Women on the pill do not get a "period" but rather a "break through bleeding" due to the placebo pills (cycle day 22-28). If you do get this bleeding, you cannot be pregnant or the fetus would be sloughed out of the uterus. Additionally, if you were not on the pill, and your period started around the beginning of September, you would not have ovulated until September 14 and could only become pregnant if you had sex on September 13,14,15, or 16. Please do not worry. I really doubt that you are pregnant. The pill is 99.9% effective against pregnancy. The earliest symptoms of pregnancy are breast tenderness, fatigue, and nausea. It sounds like you merely have a virus.
