Fetal Movement Concerns: What to Do When Kicks Decrease
QuestionAt my 28 wk appointment, my ob asked me if I'd been feeling at least 10 kicks per hour after a meal. I had...in fact, it felt like a zoo in there! However, last night and this morning I haven't felt any (30 weeks). Over the past 12 hours, I've felt 4 small flutters much like what I got around 15-16 wks, but no kicks. Does that mean he's running out of room or that there might be a problem? FYI...An ultrasound at 27 weeks showed him at 4 lbs already. They told me he'd be around 10 lbs at 40 wks (I don't have g.d.).
AnswerAt 30 weeks gestation, you should feel some fetal movement throughout the day. There are sleep/wake cycles however, and the baby will not move while it is sleeping. However, within a ten hour period you should feel ten movements. They do not have to be kicking. They can be hiccups, folling, gurgling, etc. If you do not feel movement at all, you must call your doctor and have a Non Stress test done to evaluate the baby. If you feel no movement at all, call your doctor right away and say that you have not felt the baby moving for the past day.
