Upper Vaginal Pain in Late Pregnancy: What Could It Be?

Question
I am 39 weeks pregnant with baby number 3. I have never had my babies lighten before labor.
I keep getting awful pains in the upper vaginal area, especially when I walk. It feels like the baby is pushing really really hard on my cervix. Yet the doctor says the baby is not engaged.

What could this pain be, if its not the baby?

Answer
The baby could be pushing down hard on your cervix and still not be engaged. It could be also a combination on your joints softening in anticipation for labor and the pressure of the baby itself. This can be rather painful, especially when walking. If the pain is constant and you start running a light fever or have difficulty urinating, it may be your bladder and you may want to be tested for a potential urinary tract or bladder infection.

At this point you are probably seeing your doctor every week. Bring up your concerns at the next appointment and he or she can make sure it's nothing serious. By that time, your baby may very well be engaged! =)

Please let know if I can help you with anything else and congratulations on the upcoming birth of your child.

Best wishes,
Helen =)
