Toxoplasmosis & Rubella IgG/IgM Results: Interpretation & What They Mean

Question
Dear sir

I am 26 years old, and have just had a lab test for toxoplasmosis & rubella.

The test results came out as follow:

IG M ANTI TOXOPLASMOSIS = - 0.1 (Negative 0.1)
IG G ANTI TOXOPLASMOSIS = + 70 (Positive 70)
IG M ANTI RUBELLA = - 0.16 (Negative 0.16)
IG G ANTI RUBELLA = + 156 (Positive 156)

As my GP could not interpret the above results, could you please tell me on whether there are anything to be worried about based on the above results?

Looking forward to your kind reply.

Thank you in advance for your kind attention.

Yours faithfully

Debbie

Answer
The results show that you are immune to Rubella and that you have been exposed to Toxoplasmosis in the past, but do not have any active disease at the present time. During pregnancy, you should avoid contact with any "outdoor" cat. Do not change kitty litter and wash your hands after playing with any cats.
