MMR Vaccine and Pregnancy: Risks and Concerns - Expert Advice

Question
Dear Dr. Lawrence Jay Rappaport:

I have saw your post on site:
http://experts.about.com/q/1007/3589860.htm

I am in a similar case.
My wife was 30 years old. This is her third pregnancy. We have one baby. Our first baby is aborted due to various reason. She had her last period on Aug. 26. On Sept 16, She was given MMR. We was told not to get pregnant for 4 weeks. But we where unware that she already pregnant when she was given the vaccines. We didn't know that time until we find out 2 weeks later. We went to a gynocologist and she said its very minimal to worry about. The baby will be fine but she can not give 100% asurance. But the doctors who gave the vaccines strongly suggest us to terminate the pregnancy.

We have a lovely baby of 2 years old so far. We
do want to have another one and it's about the right time. But we are very concerned about the vacinne. Please help us. Thanks a million!

BTW, i checked my wife's medical record. On labtest result of 3/31/2003, her blood test shows Rubella Antibodies, IgG of 16 IU/mL, which means she already have immune to Rubella (>10). Is there means we are safer to keep the baby?

You speed response would be highly appreciated since we have arrange the abortion if necessary next week.

Answer
Even though we suggest that you do not become pregnant after taking an MMR shot, there have been no detrimental effects of the shot in women who have been inadvertently pregnant. We DO NOT RECOMMEND TERMINATION of the pregnancy. Your wifes Rubella antibodies show that she was already immune to Rubella, so I do not know why you took the test in the first place. Don't worry about it.
