QuestionI am 31, 0 children, first day of LMP was 9/9/05.
I wrote you a question last week & your answer was quite helpful in easing my mind.
Now I have more questions! I had an ultrasound done on Nov 4 & it showed a 6-6.5 week fetus with a strong heartbeat. However, while my HCG levels are rising, (10/31-2480; 11/4-3852) they aren't doubling as they should. This seems to be a great concern to the nurse practicioner in my OB's office. She called today & said where my numbers are would put me at 3-4 wks pregnant & yet we heard a heartbeat & so far it looks to be a viable pregnancy. I am having the same symptoms I have been (breast tenderness, frequent urination, fatigue, mild nausea) and no spotting or bleeding... what would you make of this situation? They have put me on progesterone supps (100 mg) which increased my prog from 7.7 to 8.6 in less than a week. I just want to have peace and know that my pregnancy will come through just fine! But all I keep worrying about are these stupid NUMBERS! Please help. Also, based on the first day of LMP & size of the fetus, there is some question that my ovulation dates were off...
AnswerIf your last period started on September 9, then you should now be 8 weeks pregnant. However, if a sonogram shows a 6-7 week fetus with a good heartbeat, the sonogram is probably accurate. To be sure, you should get another sonogram at around 20 weeks gestation, which is more accurate than the one done at 6 weeks. Don't worry about the level of HCG. Even though it does not double every 48 hours, it is rising and you did get a good heartbeat. Just continue serial sonograms.
