Missing Fetal Heartbeat at 10 Weeks: Possible Causes & Next Steps
QuestionI sent you a question yesterday about being 10 weeks and not seeing a hertbeat on US. Thank you for your response. i had a couple more questions. Is it possible that the baby was in a postion where the heart could not be seen? and if I am misscarrying, how long will my pregnancy symptoms last.
Thanks!
AnswerA sonogram (unlike an x-ray) is not dependent on the position of the baby to see a heartbeat. If you are more than 6 weeks from the first day of your last period, a fetal heartbeat should have been seen. If you are miscarrying, you probably will start bleeding and start getting cramps. The symptoms of pregnancy sometimes can last for up to 6 weeks after a miscarriage. At 10 weeks gestation, the fetus is small enough so that if it had a heartbeat it would not have been missed.
