Pregnancy Weight Gain: Is It Normal & Gender Clues?

Question
I am 17 weeks pregnant and I have really not gained but maybe 3 to 4 pounds. Also my appetite has not really increased that much. Does this mean there is something wrong. Also not gaining much weight in the beginning does that mean a boy or girl. My age is 26, my last menstrual period was july

Answer
Up until 15 weeks of pregnancy, you may not gain due to the constant nausea and vomiting of pregnancy. However, after 16 weeks gestation, you should start to gain approximately 2-3lbs per month. At this time your nausea will disappear and your appetite will return.  During the pregnancy, you should gain approximately 30lbs in total. Weight gain has nothing to do with gender (sex) of the baby.
