Understanding Conception & Ovulation: Tracking Your Cycle

Question
I guess I forgot to throw that in there too. I went to my 20th week ultrasound and it showed that I was at 20 weeks. Everything so far shows that I am up to date on what the doctor told me. But I know that I did not start my period on May 18. I had it on May 6. Does this help out a lot more as to how to answer my question on when I concieve and on what day my boyfriend and I had sex for me to have gotten pregnant as well as when I ovulated? Thanks.

Question -
I was wondering when when I got pregnant. I had my period on May 6 2005 and on the day my period ended (May 13th), I had unprotected sex with my boyrfriend but he was not inside of me long enough to come. Then, on the 16th, 18th, 20th, and most of the days until the end of May, I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend. During the first week of June, my breasts were tender but I did not think nothing of it since that always happened right before getting my period. It was not until Father's Day that I took a pregnancy test and found out I was pregnant. I went to the doctors 3 days later and the doctor took blood work to confirm the pregnancy. The test said that I was at 6 weeks and 3 days and that my due date was on around Feb 9th. I then went to do a ultrasound on July 15th 2005 when I was 10 weeks. But when I got there and got the ultrasound done, the doctor told me I was at only 8 weeks and 2 days, not at the 10 weeks that we originally I was at. She then proceeded to ask me if my periods were normal and I told her that they've always been irregular. That was when she told me I ovulated 2 weeks late and instead of my EDD being the 9th of Feb, it would be on the 22nd of Feb. Now, this has me confuse. I have been reading up on when conception happens and when I will ovulate. I've used the pregnancy calculator and put in my LMP but it does not correspond with my new EDD. But when I put in my EDD, it does not correspond with my LMP. I would really like to hear what your opinion is in this. I also would like to know if there is also a chance that I could get pregnant by my boyfriend on the day after my period since I've read that sperm can live inside me for 5-7 days. Thanks.
Answer -
If your last period started on May 6, the earliest that you could have ovulated would have been on May 19 and you could only have conceived if you had sex on May 18,19,20, or 21. (Sperm can live for 12-24 hours, not 5-7 days). If you did become pregnant on one of those days, your due date is February 13. However, if a sonogram taken on July 15 showed you to be 8 weeks 2 days, your last period must have been May 18 and you would have conceived if you had sex on May 31. The sonogram that you took on July 15 is not as accurate as it will be when you are 20 weeks gestational age. Wait to see what the sonogram shows when you take one around 20 weeks (from your last period). That is the most accurate and I would go by the measurements at that time. According to the last sonogram, you became pregnant later than expected. When you are 20 weeks pregnant, the fundus of your uterus should be at the level of your belly button and the sonogram should measure 20 weeks. Be patient.

Answer
You left out the date of your 20 week sonogram. If the sonogram at 20 weeks showed a 20 week sized fetus, it is accurate. What was the date of the sonogram. If, on that date, you were 20 weeks pregnant, then your last period had to start 20 weeks prior to that and you would have conceived 18 weeks prior to that (or two weeks after the start of your period). If your period started on May 6, you are now 28 weeks 2 days pregnant. If your period started on May 18, you are now 26 weeks 6 days. If your period started on May 6, you would have ovulated on May 19 and could have conceived if you had sex on May 18,19,20, or 21. If your period started on May 18, the earliest you could have ovulated would have been on May 31 and you could have  Whconceived if you had sex on May 30,31, June 1, or 2.Why are you so concerned as to when you conceived if it was with the same boyfriend? Remember, you can safely deliver from two weeks prior to your due date up to two weeks after your due date.
