Nuva Ring Side Effects: Spot Bleeding & Irregular Cycles - What to Expect

Question
I am 24 years old.  I have no children and the first day of my "supposedly" menstral cycle started 12/25/05. This is my second cycle on the nuva ring and I'm wondering if I'm experiencing normal side effects or irregular ones. Before starting the nuva ring my period only last about 3-4 days. After I began the Nuva ring I started spot bleeding almost two weeks before I was supposed to remove the ring and once I did remove the ring I bleed for an entire week. I've never been on bc before but I've never bleed this much and had so many side effects. Is this normal?

Answer
You should not have so many side effects from the NuvaRing. It can have secretions after you remove it but it usually does not cause vaginal bleeding merely by removing it. A period is considered normal if you bleed from 1-10 days but you should not bleed longer than 14 days at a stretch.I would suggest that you keep a careful record of the first day of every period and count how many days there are from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period. If it is within 21-35 days, it is considered normal.
