QuestionHello, I am 25 years old with no children and my last period started on 29 December. Due to the holiday I forgot to start my pill pack and started it two days late (on 3 Jan instead of 1 Jan). I took two pills on 3 Jan and two pills on 4 Jan. I then had unprotected sex on 4 Jan and twice on 7 Jan and missed my pill again on 7 Jan (took two on 8 Jan). (I know, I am really terrible!)
From 10 Jan I have started to feel really crampy, kind of like my period but a lot lighter. My period is not due until 26 Jan. I have been taking pills regularly since 8 Jan. I am wondering, could this be implantation cramping? My pills are a very low dose, so I don't think it could be due to missing three pills.
I'm happy to wait to take a HPT for a couple of weeks, but just wondering if I should be taking some folic acid just in case?
Many thanks!
Julie
AnswerIf your last period started on December 29, and you were NOT taking birth control pills, the earliest that you could have ovulated would have been on January 11 and could only have conceived if you had unprotected sex on January 10-,11,12, or 13. You could not have conceived if you had sex on January 4 or 7. However, since you are taking the pills and have "made up" for your missed pills by taking two on January 3 and two on January 4, you are still well protected and will not ovulate and, therefore, could not conceive. Don't worry. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your next period. If you do not get your period by January 26, wait an additional week and take a pregnancy test. If you do get your period, you are not pregnant. Continue the pills. Remember that the bleeding you get each month is really only a "breakthrough" bleed and not a regular period. The pill is 99.9% effective in preventing pregnancy. So if you are on the pill, it is extremely unlikely that you could have conceived, even if you missed a few pills.
