Missed Birth Control Pills: What To Do & When to Resume | Expert Advice

Question
Hi, I recently went out of town and missed three pills (Yasmin). I was supposed to start the 3rd week. Mt insurance wont cover a new pack so I can start a new one today. If I decide not to start a new pack today (today would be the 4th missed day) can I wait until I get my period again to start taking them again? Since I will miss a whole week, will it affect my cycle drastically to the point that the pill won't be effective/safe until a month after? I just can't afford to pay out of pocket right now, my insurance won't cover my pill until about 10 days from now,  so I just want to know if it would be ok to wait until then while using other methods. Thank you.

Answer
Hey,

I think you should stop taking the pill, and wait till you get your period, and on the first day of your period, start taking the pill again.
Even though this will miss a whole week, it is the best option for you to make sure you're safe. With most pills, there is a seven day rule, where you have to take the pill for seven days before having sex, which keeps you safe.
