Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo: Missed Pills & Pregnancy Risk - Expert Advice

Question
Hi,

I've been on ortho tricyclen Lo for a little over a year.   My period was on 9/21.  I started my packet  a day late, took 2 pills on Monday, was intimate that day. Took my pill on Tuesday.  Forgot to take my pills wed and thurs but made them up on Friday and Sat.  Have been using back up protection all month.  Are my changes of pregnancy high?   I've had cramps and sore breast all month but i know it may be due to the doubling of thee pill.

Answer
Dear Vivian,

Taking the pills in this way can cause side effects, which could be the cramps and sore breast. But I can't say that for sure as I can't diagnose over the internet. If you used back up protection, the chances are a little less that you could be pregnant.

I don't recommend the birth control pills, in general, or any kind of hormonal birth control because of side effects and risks to your body and health. Can you consider another method? Let me know if you find out if you are pregnant. You can always contact a pregnancy resource center and get a free test done there.
