Small Clot & Pregnancy Complications: Lupus & APS - What to Do

Question
I am 8 weeks and I have lupus and the antiphospholipid syndrome. Today I passed a very small clot. It was the size of half of a pencil eraser. I have had a brown tinted discharge since then. Could I be misscarying?

Answer
It is doubtful that yoou would have miscarried merely due to passage of a small clot (which is common in early pegnancy) HOwever, since you do have teh antiphospholipid syndrome and Lupus, there is a higher risk fo miscarriage and you should get a sonogram to assess fetal well being. The sonogam will show if there is a good fetal heartbeat and will also show if you have a subchorionic bleed (hematoma). You should also be taking Lovenox or Heparin, and baby aspirin throughout the pregnancy.
