Fertility After Birth Control: Understanding Your Cycle & Getting Pregnant

Question
Hello Dr Lawrence,
I'm 26 y/o, no children. I've been on birth control pill for 6 years, untill Jan 16. My husband and I have desided to try and have a baby now. Since coming of the pill I had brown spotting, Feb 17, that lasted for 2-3 days. It didn't feel like a peiod, no cramps, no PMS.
On March 7 I've got the brown spotting again.
Before going on the pill I had regulare 28-30 days cicles. I know I can become pregnant around day 14 of the cicle, but where is my starting point if I never got a real period after Jun 18?(2 days after going off the pill). Should I consider the spotting a period?
I do feel tired and my breast are sore. Should I take an EPT?
Thank you very much for your time and knowledge.

Answer
You have to consider the brown spotting on February 17 and March 7 to be a period. Sometimes, after going off the pill, it can take some time for your periods to return regularly. If you believe thaty ou may be pregnant, take a prfegnancy test now. If you are still in doubt, take two blood tests for pregnancy (Beta HCG) 48 hours apart. A doubling of the results in 48 hours indicates a viable pregnancy.
