QuestionI am 26 years old and this is my third pregnancy, third child. My last period was on 6-13-5. I was scheduled for a c-section today because my baby is breeched. But to my surprise, they sent me home because they said that my ultrasound is not consistent with my last menstrual period. I thought I understood, but I dont. How can the two be different? Why do I have to wait another 9 days before I can delivery my baby? Please help --
Do you know of any natural ways to induce?
AnswerIf your last period started on June 13, you are due on March 20. You should have had a sonogram around 20 weeks gestation to confirm your due date. At this time (term) a sonogram is inaccurate in determining how far pregnant you are. Unless it showed that your baby turned from a breech presentation to a vertex presentation, there is no reason to wait. Ask your doctor what, exactly, the sonogram showed.
Reply to your last corresspondence: 3/15/06 . If you are due on March 20, you are now 39 weeks 2 days. When we perform a cesarean section due to breech presentation, we like to perform it no later than 38 weeks gestation so you do not go into labor. If you go into labor, it becomes an emergency and the breech can get stuck in the birth canal, making a cesarean more difficult.
