Understanding Early Labor Risk: A Personal History & Future Pregnancy Chances

Question
Hello, I'm 20yrs and have 2 daughters. My question is, My oldest daughter who is five was born when I was 28 weeks pregnant. Then I got pregnant a second time and had a miscarage with that baby at eight weeks. Finally I got pregnant with my youngst daughter and had her when I was 26 weeks pregnant. Me and My husband the father of all my pregnancys what to have another baby. What do you think causes me to go in to early labor?. And what do you think my chances are that if I get pregnant again that baby will be born early also?. Is there any thing to prevent this?. Thank you so much for your help.

Answer
Hi Angel,

I have no clue what makes you go into labor so early but there are things that the doctors can do to monitor and possibly prevent this from happening again.

I dont know if even the doctors can explain why you go into early labor. it may just be the way your body is.

if you do get pregnant again I would be very concerned that you might go early again. I would DEFINITELY say the chances of it happening again are very high. I would get to your OB doctor and have him or her refer you to a high-risk OB doctor.  They can do a cerclage (this is  a simple surgery where they stitch the cervix shut) this can be done usually at 14 + weeks of pregnancy. I have just had this done about a month ago which was a surprise to me that I needed it but it has saved this pregnancy.   With careful monitoring and maybe bed rest hopefully your premature labor can be prevented. It will be a lot of work to be on bed rest but you may have to do it, depending on what the doctor says.

good luck- as long as you stick with the doctors they can monitor you and your pregnancy, and hopefully things will go a little  longer for you.
