Chickenpox During Pregnancy: Risks & What to Do
QuestionMy 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with chicken pox tonight and i am 5 months pregnant what are the possible problems i could have being pregnant and also what are the best things i can do to help prevent any issues.
AnswerMelissa,
If you have had the chicken pox before, you should be immune and the risks are low for the baby. If you haven't had the chicken pox before, or aren't sure if you are immune, your doctor needs to run a blood test. Even still, you need to let your doctor know so that you can have a detailed ultrasound at 20 weeks to make sure everything is okay.
