Understanding Chickenpox and Shingles: Can You Get Chickenpox Again?

Question
Hello, I noticed you answered a question about chicken pox a couple of years ago and I am hoping you can help me. I am wondering if you get chicken pox even if I had it as a child? Here is my history. a couple of months ago I had something on the back of my neck that was sore to the touch like a big pimple but did not open when squeezed. eventually went away then developed a rash on the right side of my neck on 9 Apr, with dx of shingles on 11 Apr. Anti-viral Acyclovir given (400mg4xdailyx40tabs)rash moved to face and sensitive right ear cartilage. Today rash developed on left wrist with a watery appearing center. Is it possible I might have chickenpox?

Answer
shingles is a reactivation of chicken pox virus....  the stuff you had on your neck could have been shingles.  You won't get chicken pox again.   To get a rash on a separate area means that one of both of the areas are not shingles....   the neck sounds like it but the wrist, probably not.....  could it be poison ivy exposure?   But this sounds like it is a separate problem.
