hello my girlfriend is 24 weeks pregnant and cant remember when her last period was but she had a ultrasound scan on the 19th may tht sed she was 21 weeks and 5 days pregnant her due date is 24th of september so i was just wondering could u help us figure out her conseption date and the date of her lmp thank you
Answer -
If a sonogram on May 19, showed a 21 week 5 day fetus, and your due date is September 24, then your last period started on December 17. You probably ovulated on September 30, and could have conceived if you had sex on September 29,30,October 1, or 2.
does ultrasound date the pregnancy from conseption or lmp
Answer -
We always date a pregnancy from the date of the first day of the last period, not the date of conception. We do not date if from ovulation. The sonographic due date is based on the first day of the last period. If the sonogram on May 19 showed a 21 week 5 day fetus, then the first day of your period was December 17, you would have ovulated on December 30 and could have conceived if you had sex on September 29,30,October 1, or 2, and your due date is September 24 .
im confused a bit now so she concieved in september i thought it was december
AnswerIf her due date (by sonogram) was calculated to be September 24,then her last period must have started on December 17 since a pregnancy is 40 weeks from the FIRST DAY of her last period. Ovulation, therefore would have been on December 30 (fourteen days after the start of her period). You can conceieve if you have sex around the day of ovulation. Since the sperm lives for 12-24 hours and the egg lives for 24-28 h ours, the time to have sex is from cycle day #13,14,15 or 16. In one of my answers I inadvertently wrote September 30 as the day of ovulation. I meant to say December 30 and you could have conceved on December 29,30,31,January 1, or 2. Everything else is accurate.
I'm sorry. I was very tired when I answered your questions and wrote September for your ovulation date but it was December. Yes, we always count a pregnancy from the first day of your period, not from conception. A pregnancy is 40 weeks (280 days) from the first day of your last period, or 38 weeks (266 days) from the date of conception.
Your last period started on December 17, you ovulated on December 30, and could have conceived if you had sex on December 29,30,31,January 1, or January 2.The sonogram at 21 weeks correctly showed you to be 21 weeks 5 days on May 19.You are due on September 24. My best of luck to you.
