Prometrium in Pregnancy: Understanding Dosage & Safety
QuestionI am about to be 16 weeks along on Thursday. My doctor has me on Prometrium. I had asked the OB doctor on here about it and he said after 12 weeks, don't take it. My doctor told me today, "It will keep the baby alive and you'll go full term." (My 18-month old was a preemie...month to the day early) I think he didn't like me questioning his knowledge or something. What do you know about this stuff? I just know that it has a lot of side effects, etc. and that all over the bottle it says "DO NOT TAKE IF PREGNANT" That really worries me...
AnswerJennifer,
I have never heard of Prometrium being used after 16 weeks. I think that by then, it has done it's job and there is no use for it. They don't use Prometrium to keep you pregnant if you go into pre-term labor later on. I think you are right in questioning this. I would get a second opinion. I don't think you should be taking it anymore. I hope this helps. Good luck!
