Acrylic Nails & Pregnancy: Safety Concerns & Expert Advice

Hello Dr. Harriet,

I am 7 weeks pregnant and this is my first child. I am quite unsure about a few things during pregnancy. I want to make sure I know the Do's and Don't and was wondering if it is safe to do acrylic nails during pregnancy?

I have been reading articles/forums on the internet and getting mixed reviews so really I don't know my answer.

Can you please help me out and let me know if doing acrylic nails during pregnancy would the harm the baby in any way?

Hi Arzina,

The exposure to any potentially harmful materials would be so small that it wouldn't pose any danger. The only potential danger in acrylic nails would be the exposure to solvents. You wouldn't be exposed to enough solvents from getting acrylic nails for there to be a problem.
