Loestrin 24/Breakthrough Bleeding: Pill Timing & Spotting Concerns

I'm on Loestrin 24 Fe (first month after switching from its generic, Microgestin). I started my pack on time, I take it at 7-7:30am every morning. On the second day, I forgot to take the pill but when I rememberd I took it the next day with my 3rd pill as instructed and have kept up with it since. I abstained from sex for 5 days. At the last day of the second week of being on my active pills, I started some light brown spotting, this being June 10th. Today is June 14th and I'm lightly bleeding versus spotting red (not like a normal period, clear with no mucous or tissue in it). I called my doctor and she said its breakthrough bleeding. This is my third month on the pill and I only had breakthrough bleeding on the first month that was light brown with some dark brown bits. Second month I had slight breast soreness and no bleeding. Now this month I have no breast soreness and just this light bleeding going on for 4 days now (started light and brownish got a little heavier and reddish, toward evening almost stopped and picked up again a bit in the morning). Its not very heavy, its light but its bleeding. I followed all the directions per my pill instructions and never have been ejaculated into. Is it normal to have breakthrough bleeding that goes from light/brown to a reddish and lasts a few days? It is bleeding not spotting. And my gyno told me its most likely because I had missed that pill and it could go on for the rest of my cycle. Is this normal?

If you miss a pill, you often will get some breakthrough bleeding. This is because there was a decrease in the hormonaql level after missing the pill. You did the correct thing. If you miss one pill, take two the next day. If you miss two pills, take two the next day and two the day qfter. If you miss three pills, throw the pack away and start a new pack on Sunday. I can't tell you anything else because you did not tell me the first day of your last period.
