Understanding Low Amniotic Fluid Levels (5.9) & Water Breaking

Question
i was told my fluid level is 5.9, if my water breaks, will it put the baby in distress because of the low amount of fluid

Answer
5.9 is well within the normal range.  You should know that amniotic fluid measurements are highly subjective, with two different people able to look at the same woman and get wildly different results, so take them with a grain of salt.  Your baby will not go into distress if your water breaks.  The water breaking is a normal part of the birthing process, and your baby is prepared for that.  Your baby will continue to get nutrition and oxygen from the placenta even after your water breaks.  Even if your water breaks a long time (hours or days) before you deliver, amniotic fluid is constantly produced and can even replenish itself.

Your biggest concern with your water breaking is the risk of infection, which is why you should not allow anything internal, even routine internal exams, after your water breaks.
