Clomid & Pregnancy Testing: When to Test for Accurate Results
QuestionI emailed you a few days ago with a question about some irregular bleeding I had on day 21 of my cycle after taking Clomid. My question now is when I can get an accurate urine pregnancy test? I took one today (day 28), which was 15 days after I ovulated. The test was negative. Should I trust that test or should I retest? If that test is accurate, then I need to begin taking my next round of Provera. I would really appreciate any advice you can provide.
AnswerDear Rachel,
I typically recommend waiting until after the full week of a missed or spotty period before testing, which is usually more than three weeks after conception. This tends to lessen the incidence of false negative readings.
If you feel that you may have conceived and/or have pregnancy symptoms which continue, then I would wait 5-7 days and re-test. Make sure when you test that you are using more concentrated 1st morning urine to get the most accurate results.
I hope this has helped and answered your question. I wish you well.
