Preeclampsia Risk & Exercise During Pregnancy: A Concerned Mother's Questions

Question
I have a couple questions for you.  First of all I am pregnant with my second baby (9 weeks).  With my first I had preeclampsia.  I read a research study that suggested exercising more than 7 hours a week increased your chances of preeclampsia.  Is this true?  I taught low impact aerobics until they found out I had it.  Wondering if this is something I should avoid for this pregnancy?  I am concerned I might have caused it before.  My other question pertains to cold chills during pregnancy.  I have no other symptoms besides the typical nausea, fatigue that goes along with pregnancy.  I have been colder than everyone around me for the past 8 days.  My husband was hot last night and I was shaking from being cold.  I had blankets on and he did not.  I never had a problem with being so cold in my last pregnancy (the exact opposite), nor did I have such a vast temperature difference between my husband and myself before I was pregnant.  Thx! -Emily

Answer
Emily,
Congratulations on being pregnant with your second child. You did not cause your preeclampsia with your first pregnancy. It is just not possible. I have never heard of exercising causing preeclampsia. I would double check with your OB doctor, but I am sure there is nothing that causes preeclampsia. Your doctor will  better be able to advise you on what you should avoid and not avoid during this pregnancy. You will be considered more high risk given your history, so they will monitor you more closely.
To answer your second question, I would be willing to bet it has to do with low iron. Make sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins. I would let your OB know about your chills in case he or she wants to look at your hemoglobin and hematocrit levels.
Good luck!!
