Understanding Orgasm & Urinary Sensations: A Guide for Women

Question
I don't know if this is in your area of expertise, but I'll ask anyway.Ok, so I am 19 and have never had an orgasm, either alone or with a partner. Whenever my bf goes down on me, I get the sensation that I am going too pee so i make him stop. I am wondering if the onset of orgasm feels like having to pee, or what is going on.What else can cause this feeling? Is there a chance I can be a squirter? Also, how can I just relax and let the feeling go so I don't make him stop? Thank you.

Answer
Dear Cindy,

It can be easy to confuse the sensation of an impending orgasm with the urge to urinate. Women who have urinary stress incontinence sometimes leak urine when they cough, sneeze, or orgasm. However, this is much more common in women who have had children or perimenopausal women. If you are not one who experiences urinary stress incontinence at other times, then most likely you are confusing messages from very sensitive parts of your body.

The clitoris is extremely close to the urethra (opening to the bladder) and stimulating one inevitably stimulates the other. Try urinating right before sex to empty your bladder. (and after too - always after to minimize the chances of urinary tract infections) If your bladder is empty, when you begin to have that sensation, you will know that there is hardly any urine there anyway. If it makes you feel more comfortable, make your bed with a towel under the sheet to boost your confidence. Also, let your partner know that you are worried that you may be a "squirter". Tell him you want so badly to experience an orgasm but have always held back for fear that this may be the case. (By the way...more than likely, this will be a complete turn-on for him.) Then...relax and let what happens happen. You really need to be completely relaxed and "float" with it. Orgasms just don't work if you are in any way uptight about anything.

I hope that this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well and good luck!

Brenda

PS. As an FYI note... men don't have this problem. When a man is about to ejaculate, the opening to his bladder closes to prevent urine from mixing with semen. They physiologically can't urinate when they orgasm!
