Questioni am 6 weeks pregnant and experienced some light pink spotting and no pain or cramping whatsoever. went to the er and they could not detect a heartbeat. this is my first pregnancy, no miscarriages and i really want my baby. they said it could b just too early 2 get one. is this true should i worry?
AnswerAshley,
Congrats on your pregnancy, and try not to worry too much, at least not yet.
A heartbeat is usually detectable by the 6th week, however, unless you are absolutely certain about the date of conception, you could be off by up to a week or so, throwing those early milestones off considerably. One thing that might ease your mind some, is to ask your doc to do a quantitative HCG draw. Then ask him/her to repeat the test 2 days later. The initial number is not nearly as important as making sure that the number rises by at least 33% in 48 hours.
Good luck, and if it were me, I would also request a repeat ultrasound in a week to make sure everything is on track.
I hope the best for you and your baby!
