QuestionHi Brenda, my storY goes like this. In the month of March 2008 my period ran about 2 weeks late ,which ran into the beginning of April 2008. I immediately went to the clinic and took a pregnancy test and the docter entered the room and told me the test was NEGATIVE!! I explained to her that I took a home pregnancy test and it came back POSITIIVE!! She left the room and came back in and said she used the same urine and it was POSITIVE! her excuse was she didnt know why the nurse put it in the system NEGATIVE! Okay I left the clinic immediately after I left my period comes down!! It was heavy as usual and I bled for 7 days! On April 11th I went back in to the clinic took a tes and it was NEGATIVE!! Inc addition, I took a blood test and the results were negative!! Okay, April 19th I had unprotected sex and on May 23rd or 21st, not sure, I went in and found out i was pregnant. The Ultrasound said i was 6 weeks and 6 days! I asked the docter could the ultrasound be off by a week or two she said yes...i left and said okay! Here I am and it is now July 3rd and I got another ultrasound and the docter said I was 12 weeks and 4 days! my expecteed due date was at first Jan. 23rd 09 now its Jan. 11th 09!h Previously In 2002 I had a molar pregnancy....i dont know if that had anything to do with it but was I pregnant on April 4th DESPITE my NEGATIVE blood test? I am so very confused because I know I got pregnant on April 19th but the ultrasound is saying I was pregnant on the 4th of April and I bled for 7 days PLUS had a NEGATIVE BLOOD TEST ....I dont know Kwho to tell who the father is....PLS HELP!
AnswerDear Elaysha,
Here's where I think your confusion lies... pregnancy dating is calculated using the LMP date, NOT the conception date. When you are told you are 12 weeks, for example, that means you are 12 weeks from the last menstrual period date.
Using 4/19 as the probable conception date, it calculates back to an approximate LMP date of 4/5. It also calculates to an estimated due date of 1/10/09, which is right in line with both the 6 week AND 12 week ultrasound results. (If conception took place on/around 4/19, you would have been 6 6/7 weeks on 5/23.)
So... everything is actually pretty clear and ultrasounds indicate a probable conception date of 4/19 too.
I do apologize for the delay in answering. I suffer from migraines and have had a three day-er since returning from a mini-vacation. I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
