Baby Size Discrepancy: Ultrasound vs. Due Date - What's Happening?

Question
After two examinations at which my uterus measured 3-4 weeks ahead of my edd, I was sent for an ultrasound. The ultrasound, given at 30 weeks, estimated the baby's age at 33w6d, and gave a weight of 5 lbs. 3 oz. I am now 34 weeks, and have seen two different doctors at my OBGYN office, and neither of them will even look at the results. Both said it doesn't matter what the ultrasound results were, because everything confirmed my due date at 20 weeks. If this is the case, why did another doctor (there are 8 doctors practicing at this office)seem concerned enough to order an ultrasound? What do these results mean, if anything, and how reliable are these measurements? I am trying to plan my maternity leave, and do not want to start it too soon.

Answer
The ultrasound was probably ordered to make sure there was not two babies or excess fluid, things of concern.
After the ultrasound was done and things look fine then there is no longer need for the Dr. to worry.
That does not mean you won't worry.  You are expected mom that is in your job description.
I had the same type thing happen with my pregnacy it is fairly common.
Go with the Drs. due date more than the sonogram.  Sonograms are pretty accurate but can cause undo concern.
Good luck and Congrats!
