Post-Abortion Nausea: How Long Does It Last?

Question
I have searched the internet every where to find an answer and cannot, do you know how long my morning sickness will continue after my medical abortion next week?

Answer
Hi, Buster,

I'm going to make a couple of followup comments. I do take to heart poor ratings. I'm not exactly sure why you gave me low ratings, however. You said the answer was quick but only gave me a 5. No hard feelings. Seriously. I'm not upset with you.

As I said, NOBODY knows how long it will take to get past morning sickness. I mentioned ginger tea, which you could choose to try now, and see how effective it is. And even if you have the abortion, and still have morning sickness, it may help then as well. But I will make note of the fact that women have told me lots of different things about morning sickness afterwards. Some people find relief immediately, and some don't for weeks. So I gave you as honest an answer as I could, and I did address the question.

If you found the decision difficult, then it is possible that you really should look at alternatives. Seriously. I can, and will help you find other answers if you are willing. It's not my intention to cause you emotional distress. And I have found that far too few doctors really obtain informed consent, so if your doctor has informed you, count yourself lucky.

Regardless of what you do, if you go through with abortion and need to talk afterward, I will be here for you. I won't reject you. But if I didn't warn you, I'd be remiss, both morally and legally. So I have to warn. No choice there. :)

Hugs!

Hi, Buster,

I don't know where to find the answer to your question, and in any case, nobody really knows, because it's your body, and you are proposing using a huge dose of hormones, which will upset your delicate hormonal balance. Even a doctor cannot tell you, certainly not over the internet. And I have had reports here from women who still have pregnancy hormones weeks after a medical abortion.

For morning sickness, many people find that sipping ginger tea helps. Also, there are other possible remedies, and doctors can usually give something that will control it without harm.

But I think you are jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Medical abortions are very dangerous and can kill you. For one thing, they'll give you one medication and send you home. If you develop a complication, you're on your own. For another, you can bleed uncontrollably for a very long time afterward, and I don't know of a way to stop it short of a hysterectomy. For still another, if you take the second medication vaginally, it can cause toxic shock syndrome, which kills within hours. Or, it could cause such violent contractions of your uterus that it could rupture, and that can kill you. And there is no way whatsoever to control the strength of the contractions, and once that starts, it cannot be stopped. The second medication specifically comes with a warning: it is not to be used by pregnant women. Period. Any doctor who would prescribe it for abortion is, frankly, a quack. All of the dangers are currently being swept under the rug. But I frequently get questions from women here who are having that uncontrollable bleeding and have been bleeding for weeks. It's not worth it.

You may already be aware that surgical abortion isn't any better. A lot of women are turning to medical abortion because this is becoming common knowledge.

If I can help you find another answer, I will do my best. There are resources available to you that you probably don't know about. But I can get that information readily. What part of the world do you live in?

But please don't hurt yourself. I won't help you do that, either. Stay safe!
