Question
Dear Helene,

I am 4 months pregnant and i have had my job for almost 2 years. I love it and it pays really well and i have insurance with them. The only problem is, is that i am constantly lifting heavy boxes and its starting to hurt my back and making me very tired. I don't want to lose my job but i don't no how much longer i can do this for. What should i do?

Thanks
Brandi

Answer
While I am not an expert on maternity issues in the workplace, I do know once your belly "gets in the way" that lifting heavy boxes is not advisable. And you are only 4 months along. By six months, you tummy will be large enough to make heavy lifting impossible.

I advise you to consult with an expert in workplace disability issues to find out what your rights and responsibilities are and are not. Do it now, while you still can do your job. It's possible that your employer has to accommodate you pregnancy and move you to a job that does not put you, or your developing baby at risk.
