UTI and Pregnancy Tests: Can a Urinary Tract Infection Cause False Positives?

Question
Hello, I've had no period for two months after coming off mini pill. Have also
been suffering from uti's since Xmas.I took hpt on Monday and it was
positive, repeated 5x then another one in the morning. Is it possible the uti
cld have made all of these false positives?

Answer
Dear Sophie,

No. There have been reports that blood or protein in the urine may cause false-positive results, however that would be rare. The pregnancy hormone, called hCG, is either there in a significant enough amount or it isn't. If you have had SIX positive pregnancy tests, I would suggest you can consider yourself pregnant.

If you had no period in early February or March (meaning your LMP was early January), you are likely at least 9 to 10 weeks along. I would recommend seeing your doctor as soon as possible.

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
