Postpartum Rectus Diastasis: Exercises & Recovery Advice

Question
Hi Helene,

I have been told I have diverification of the rectus muscles after a twin
pregnancy, I am 6 months post partum and the gap is not too bad and I don't
have any weight problem, I would be quite slim.  So I would like to know first
of all is it possible to fix this without surgery as I am totally against it??  If so
what are the best exercises to do to help achieve this. Please give me any
advice as I want to get started on a programme asap.

Michele

Answer
Most new moms with twins have at least some separation of the Rectus Abdominis (the "six-pack"). Surgery is only needed in the most extreme cases.

For most women, with the proper exercises, the gap can close to 2 finger-widths or less. A gap of less than 2 finger-widths is too small to be considered a diastasis.
