QuestionHi, I am 33 weeks pregnant with my first child, and my lmp was on August 4. My due date given to me by my doctor is May 11th. I've only had one ultra sound at 28 weeks, but I measured at 28 weeks and 5 days. My baby weighed 2.13 lb. Is it possible that I could have conceived 2-3 weeks before my last period? or Does every woman have to have on more period after she conceives??
You see, my boyfriend's mother claims to have conceived her first child on July 25, and she had a due date of may 20th. From my knowledge that is impossible. But she's telling me that in order for my due date to be May 11th, I would've had to conceive my baby at the end of July. Also, if my baby is born at anytime before may 11th, then it is definitely not her son's child.
please help me out if you can. I can't take this anymore.
AnswerDear Denise,
Your dates seem to be exactly right! According to my calculations, with a LMP date of 8/4/08, your estimated date of conception would have been 8/18/08 and your estimated due date would be 5/11/09.
The thing that your boyfriend's mother (and many other people) don't know/understand is that pregnancy dating - ALL pregnancy dating, including that done by ultrasound - gives a gestational age in "weeks from LMP", NOT weeks from conception date. But many times people assume when they hear that # of weeks that it means that the fetus is that # of weeks old. Technically, that is incorrect. It is confusing, I know, but that is the way it is.
Unfortunately, she has been very wrong for many years if she thinks she conceived her child on 7/25 with a due date of 5/20. A child conceived on 7/25 would have been due (40 weeks) on/about 4/17. A baby with a due date of 5/20 would have been conceived on/about 8/27. Tell her to ask any OB/GYN to calculate it if she has doubts.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well... for many years. :-)
