Second Pregnancy After Preeclampsia: Early Signs & Concerns

Question
I had a great first pregnancy until about week 35. My blood pressure rose to 130/90 and at week 37 it shot up to 180/120 / I was diagnosed with severe preeclampsia and had an emergency c-section on September 3rd. As of today, December 6th, I fear I may be pregnant again. I already had 2 regular periods and I am due for my next on December 9th. I was only breastfeeding a little bit and recently I have been taking a medication to help with lactation since I had a severe drop in milk supply after a preeclampsia incident after delivery. Today I had cramping and a little spotting and then nothing. I do not know if this is because I am pregnant or because of the increased breastfeeding. I am terrified. I am still on high blood pressure medication (amlodipine) and I have read that that can result in birth defects. Besides that, I just had a c/section 3 months ago! I am very concerned about the risks involved. And I am also wondering what the chance of a uterus rupturing is if a 2nd c-section is performed before I go into labor. There is so much running through my head and I would appreciate any help. Thanks so much.

Answer
Dear Whitney

Breat feeding by itself stimulates the release of oxytocin hormone wich causes uterine contractions and abdominal crampings especially in new breast feeders. This is one point. On the other hand, there is a definite risk of uterine rupture if pregnancy was carried out till term and therefore; most obstetrician will deliver you once sured of maturity of the baby. This can be as early as 34 weeks.
Third, since you are expecting your period on the 9th, there is no point to worry till then. if no period shows in due date, alternative workup may be needed.

Best of luck.
