Irregular Periods: Possible Causes & What to Expect

Hello Mohamed,

I apologise if this is not your chosen field but i wasn't too sure who to ask!  So please help if you can!

I am 24 and pretty healthy. In the past 2 months i have had 4 periods..... this is rather unusual for me as i'm pretty regular.  

I have however recently started having (safe) sex again after 2 years without any kind of sexual contact.  I was wondering whether the sudden hormone change may have effected my periods.... do you think this is a possibility?  Any advice you can offer on this would be great!

Starting safe sex should have no impact on the regularity of your cycle unless this is associated with some stressful psychic events. To doagnose organic lesions examination is necessary.

However, you should bear in mind that irregular cycle is a common problem at your age and is called medically "Dysfunctional uterine bleeding". Most cases are easily treated but proper examination is a must for proper diagnosis.
