Understanding Depression During Pregnancy: Symptoms & Support

Question
Is it possible to get ppd while you're still pregnant?  I've got a history of depression...though I've been fine and off Zoloft for the past 3 years.  I'm 36 wks pregnant and suddenly don't feel like myself.  I've been excited until now.  I don't know if I'm overwhelmed, if it's just the hormones, or if I'm starting to spiral downward again.  In a nutshell, I'm tired of being pregnant, but I don't really want the baby just yet either.  I'd like to have about a week with my old skinny self to run off and be 'me' before my life changes completely.  I'm a bit worried about getting ppd because I've only got 2 weeks - including my hospital stay - off from work.

Answer
Talk to your obstetrician IMMEDIATELY. In some cases, certain medication is permitted if the need outweighs the risk to the baby. Prozac has been extensively studied and, although not recommended during pregnancy, can be used if necessary. Zoloft is not studied that much so we do not know. Please discuss it with your doctor right away.
