Diastasis Recti: Has Your Ab Split Closed? Exercise Progression

helene,
when i test for diastis recti, my tummy muscles come completely together, with no gap.  does that mean that my seperation is closed?   if so, could i now move on to the normal Bounce back fast exercises, rather than focusing on the belly lacing and beginner moves?

Answer
Yes, move on to the next series of exercises. Carefully monitor the shape of your abdomen as you do these exercises. It's' very easy for the external abs to overpower the TvA, which will make your tummy bulge outward and this will open your mid line.
Many of the exercises in this group work off of the Belly Scoop position. These are dynamic stability exercises. Make sure too that your pelvis and lower back never move in these exercises so that you're training the TvA to function properly as a stabilizer.
