Understanding Random Glucose Levels: What Do Your Results Mean?
QuestionI had a Random glucose test and the results are 114 and my doctor is concerned that I am becoming diabetic and wants to do a battery of tests to determine this. Note: I have anlkylosing spondylitis, spinal stenosis, and a level 3 spondolisthesis,I am overweight %26 42 years old. Everything I read about a random glucose test is that the normal range is between 74 and 142. Can you advise on what a normal random glucose range should be?
Thank you Tami
AnswerHi Tami. I'd be glad to try and answer your question. In my opinion, there is no such thing as a normal range for a "random" glucose level. This is because ANY food or drink ingested in the last 8-10 hours can affect your glucose level. The glucose test must drawn after fasting for AT LEAST 8 hours (10-12 is preferable). The test would be way more accurate and much more helpful to the doctor if it were done after fasting.
