Fertility After Birth Control: How Long to Conceive?

Question
QUESTION: hiya i'm 23 years old and was on the depo injection for 3 and half years and went on the pill in january 2008 and stopped taking the pill a month ago and was wondering if being on these type of contrception will make it harder for me to concieve straight away.

ANSWER: Hello,

It can take several months before the pill is out of your system so you may wish to wait about 3 months before trying to conceive.  That is what most doctors suggest.  Usually after a few months, you should not have any more difficulty conceiving, but it can take about 6 months on average for a couple to conceive.  Good luck.

QUESTION: hi i came on my period on the 6th august and was only on for 2 days and my cycle usually lasts 4 days. could i be pregnant

Answer
Since you just came off the pill, your cycles may be much shorter as it can take a few months before you actually begin ovulating again and having normal cycles.  You could take a home pregnancy test to make sure if you want.  These are near 100% reliable.
