QuestionQUESTION: Hello
I stopped Yaz 4 months ago and every month since I have noticed midcycle cramps, heavy bleeding and headaces. Would this come about because of me getting off the pill? I have been on the pill for 16 years and never had mid cycle bleeding on the pill.
ANSWER: Hi J,
Yes, these symptoms can be from going off the pill. Mid-cycle bleeding can occur the first few months after going off the pill, as your body adjusts back to your non-pill hormone levels. Did you have heavy bleeding before going on the pill? It is common to go back to the type of cycle you used to have before going on the pill, even if you were on the pill for many years. If it is not the type of period you used to have, then it is probably your body adjusting. The headaches are also a side effect of adjusting to your non-pill hormone levels. Usually it takes about 1-3 months for your body to adjust, although it can take longer. Since it has been 4 months you may want to give your doctor a call to let him/her know and to see if he/she has advice.
I hope this helps. If you have further questions let me know.

QUESTION: Hello,
Those symptoms above stopped and now there is a different situation. I started having low back pain, spotting (brown) only when I wipe, and frequent urination 8 days after my mid cycle events. My nipples are tingly sometimes. (I know tmi) I don't know if I ovulated because I was bleeding during those days that I would have been. I didn't used to go to the bathroom alot. I have not started drinking any more than I used to so I don't know why I would be going to the bathroom alot more. Any sugestions?
ANSWER: Hi J,
Those symptoms can be due to different things. Is there any chance you could be pregnant? Frequent urination, lower back pain, and even some bleeding can be pregnancy signs. If this is possible, I recommend taking a home pregnancy test.
Some women have spotting during the time they ovulate, so that is a possibility. The back pain, breast tingling, and frequent urination can be PMS signs.
The low back pain, blood in urine, and frequent urination are also symptoms of a UTI. Do you have any pain when you urinate? Some people, but not all, will also feel some pain. If a UTI is a possibility, then you should make an appointment with your doctor for a test and to get antibiotics.
Since UTIs should not go untreated, I think you should give your doctor a call and let him/her know what is going on. He/she may also have some other ideas aside from the above three.
I hope this helps. If you have further questions let me know.

QUESTION: Ok
I am suppose to start my period yesterday today or tomorrow. I took a hpt and it was negative but man my nipples are so sore. I think my bra makes it worse. My lower part of my back has been killing me all day yesterday and on and off for about a week, (when i had the spotting 8 days after ovulation) Should I wait until a few more days to see if I get my period and then take another test? My mother says she didnt have any morning sickness with her pregnancies so would that mean I would not either? I don;t have any pms symptoms like cramping like I would it I was to get my period tomorrow, so I don;t know.
AnswerHi J,
Morning sickness (or no morning sickness) is not hereditary. It is based on each individual pregnancy and how a woman's body reacts to the hormonal changes. So even if your mother did not have morning sickness that does not mean you won't during a pregnancy. If you have only taken one hpt so far, wait a few days and then take another. If the second one is negative and you do not get a period, give your doctor or planned parenthood a call. They should probably give you a blood test to be absolutely sure you are not pregnant. If that test is negative, then it is most likely that your body is still adjusting to being off the pill.
There are many causes of lower back pain that are not hormonal. Is it possible that you pulled a muscle? Even if it is unrelated to hormones, you should have it checked out. In the meantime, apply a heat pad or an ice pack to help reduce pain. Pain relievers such as advil, or even a short walk if the pain is not too bad, can also help.
I hope this helps. If oyu have further questions let me know.
