QuestionQUESTION: hi, I am 33 years old. I have regular period cycyle. Since Sep 2008 I started IUI. So far I have done 2 natural IUI with Oval trigger shot only, one IUI with Clomid and trigger shot, one IUI with F** and trigger shot. I failed all four times. Everytime I was tested normal in every perspective. What shall I do next? Go for injectible? I am so frustrated. Pls help me.
ANSWER: Hello Jay,
Studies have shown that once you do four IUI cycles, with evidence of ovulation in each, then further IUI cycles will probably not help i.e. the pregnancy rates decrease substantially. Therefore, I recommend my patients to proceed to IVF at that point. I think that is where you are now. IVF will give you a 60% chance of pregnancy per attempt vs 20% with IUI.

QUESTION: thank you for your quick response. So you don't suggest I go for injectible IUI? The cost for IVF and IUI is over ten times difference as you know. I am still hoping I can get pregnant through IUI. BTW, I am heathy. The reason I go for IUI is because of my husband.

Of course you can do what you and/or your husband want. There are no absolutes. I was only citing the studies that have been published to give you guidance. If you decide that you want to do more IUI's then that is the way to go.
