Ovarian Cysts & Pregnancy: Understanding Your Options
QuestionDear Sarah,
I got a scanning (SONOGRAPHY) done this morning as I had been experiencing a mild pain in the right ovary area for almost 20 days. The reports show that I have a 36mm Cyst in my right ovary and a 26 mm Follicle. Is it something very serious and would it affect future pregnancy? My Doctor has given me medicines(Homeopathy) for a month to treat the cyst. But what is a Follicle? Is it good or bad for future fertility? I experienced inter-menstrual bleeding twice this menstrual cycle. The Doctor has however given me medicines to regularize my periods and ensure I have a healthy reproductive system. Please let me know if Cysts are follicles (26mm) harmful.
Thanks and regards,
Deepa
AnswerHello,
Follicles are normal and occur every month as you're about to ovulate. Cysts can be painfu and can sometimes interfere with getting pregnant, if they are a large enough size. If they are cysts from endometriosis, you may also have difficulty getting pregnant due to this condition. However, many cysts are harmless and common. It depends on the type of cyst.
