QuestionWhat are your thoughts about consuming artificial sweeteners -- like Splenda and Nutrasweet -- while trying to conceive? Have these substances been shown to impair or delay fertility?
I would like to get pregnant in the coming months and trying to prepare my body for having a baby. I've already started taking a prenatal vitamin, cut back on my caffeine intake, added more fruits and vegetables to my diet, and replaced my low fat dairy products with full fat versions (I read low fat dairy can have a negative effect on ovulation). Should I be eliminating/cutting back on the artificial sweeteners too? I tried researching this on my own, but the only information I am able to find is that these substances are deemed safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women.
AnswerHello,
There are no known problems with using these sweeteners when trying to conceive or after conception.
